a great paean of praise to God’s transcendent otherness: He is “enthroned above the cherubim” (v. 1) and “exalted above all the peoples [Gentiles]” (v. 2); they are to “praise [His] great and awesome name; Holy is He” (vv. 5, 9). The prophet Isaiah exclaimes similarly: “For thus says the high and exalted One who lives forever, whose name is Holy, ‘I dwell on a high and holy place’ ” (Isa 57:15).
